It wasn’t until the 24th July that this opportunity became a possibility when I found out about an opening on an existing expedition planned to summit Kilimanjaro in October.
A few of my good friends from BNI had planned an expedition with G-Adventures to summit Kili, raising money for different charities including the amazing Free@Last in Neachells.
I’ve had the opportunity to come to know John and the team at Free@Last well over the last year and have been involved in as many ways as I can, helping with photography and videography services along with raising funds through our own chapter BNI TGI.
So from an opportunity posted on Facebook for a last-minute vacant slot on the expedition to a discussion with John and a deliberation whilst I was away on holiday, I accepted the challenge…and here I am!
But what a challenge it’s going to be. I’ve got to admit, I’m a little nervous!
Whilst I’m not in terrible physical condition, I’m certainly not where I would want to be, so from the first day I accepted the challenge I’ve been out running to improve my fitness. I want to make sure I get to ‘enjoy’ the challenge as well as complete it – and I’m committed to giving it my all!
I’ll be sharing my journey along the way, and I’ve started tracking my efforts on the infamous Strava (you can follow me here if you’re interested!). As I’m writing this I’m about to hit publish and hit the streets again!
So that’s it for today, but PLEASE – if you can get involved! Whether through the corporate sponsorship opportunities or though my JustGiving page.
